Liam Ryan made his name as keyboardist and songwriter with kiwi band The Narcs in the 1980s - (You Took Me) Heart and Soul, Diamonds On China - and since the Narcs disbanded in 1998 he has returned to his musical roots playing keyboards and Hammond organ as a session player touring recently with international artists including Charlie Musselwhite, Long John Baldry and Robben Ford. He plays regularly with BOP based fusion outfit The Torch Songs Band who have headlined at national Arts and Jazz Festivals over the last five years. As well he records and performs with many New Zealand artists. His last recording date was playing on Shona Laing’s upcoming album.

Mississippi to Mauao is Liam’s first solo album and has been three years in the making. Recorded at Torch Records’ studio in the Bay Of Plenty the M2M: Mississippi To Mauaoalbum has received glowing reviews:

“... a strong channelling of Miles Davis, lovely balanced production, very scenic with great horn playing and guitar playing…here’s hoping he does more...”
Manu Taylor (National Programme Nine To Noon album reviews Feb 2007)

“…a fusion of style and substance that will please both the dedicated musician and the casual listener...the playing is stellar by all who contributed…..a local work with world wide appeal…”
Joel Ford (Bay Of Plenty Times January 2007)

The  second of the M2M trilogy,  Pacific Riviera,  was released January 2011 to glowing reviews.

The album was inspired by 4 New Zealand rivers - Waikato, Awatere , Riwaka and Motueka - all of which have impacted on the life of the composer. The second CD dovetails with the first as it moves its focus from the sea, inland  to the rivers. The third CD to be released in 2012 will use the mountains of the South Island as its inspiration. So the overarching trajectory of the music is a journey form the ocean inland and back to the source. Whil the music finds its genisis in the land sea and sky of Aotearoa (NZ) the funk and groove of the tracks sit well in club and lounge settings - ambient to upbeat, all original performnces of premium quality and impeccable production.

Sounding very much like a sequel to the M2M album,Pacific Riviera was written and produced in Nelson (NZ) at Anam Cara Studios and  boasts a stellar line up of collaborators including trumpeter Mike Booth, Aaron Saxon on guitar, Steve Garden on drums, with cameo appearances by Cameron Allen on sax and Warren Mendonsa on guitar.

The Pacific Riviera album has received stunning reviews - "...sonically this album is world class....an intelligent and evocative exposition..."
